Germany is undeniably of great importance for Flanders. It is our most important trading partner, it is the most influential member state of the EU and Germany's cultural and social influence on our regions remains high. The policy goals and actions that are worked out in the strategy paper, are situated within these three axes.
- Economic cooperation
- European cooperation
- Social and cultural cooperation
The strategy paper not only sets out the lines for cooperation between Flanders and the federal German government, but also with the Länder. Depending on the policy objective, Flanders will look for the most suitable partner. Given the high autonomy and extensive competence package, this will often be a German state.
The strategy paper is available in Dutch and German.
