Twenty-four regions - including Flanders - from nine different European Member States have jointly called for greater involvement in EU decision-making on post-COVID recovery. They did this through a letter addressed to European leaders; Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel, Parliament President David Sassoli, and the heads of government of the current Trio Presidency Angela Merkel (Germany), António Costa (Portugal) and Janez Jansa (Slovenia).
In the letter, the regions state that they "will make a joint effort to strengthen the role of regions in the EU's post-COVID recovery decision-making process" and that they "wish to be actively involved in the preparation and implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Facility and the national plans adopted in this framework".
The letter was co-signed by Minister-President Jambon and responds to the ambition of the Government of Flanders, via partnerships and alliances with regions and Member States, to weigh more and directly on the European decision-making process.
