Liberia was founded in the nineteenth century as a new homeland for former slaves from the United States. In the 1990s, there was a gruesome civil war. Liberia is currently a member of Ecowas, the West African organisation for economic integration. West Africa has seen huge economic growth. There is potential for port development and a need for (modernisation of the) transport infrastructure. These are sectors in which Flemish companies excel and where cooperation with the Flemish ports can supply the necessary expertise, ensuring sustainable relationships. Moreover, Brussels Airlines also operates a direct route between our country and Monrovia, which is beneficial for trade links.
